The Butterfly Effect

March 2026

I was talking to my co-founder a couple weeks ago and he mentioned how his scholarship application for graduate school got accepted.

I was thrilled for him, as he was working towards the opportunity of studying his desired field in post-grad.

As we were texting after a brief call showing exclamation, we chatted about how we initially met.

I met my co-founder in early 2022 at a bus stop at the University of Guelph.

I saw him waiting for the bus and do not remember what I said first exactly, perhaps asked him is this the bus stop for me to head back home (my direction sense is awful).

He said yeah and then I do not know why but I was compelled to engage into a conversation.

We spoke during the entire bus trip about music, grad school, etc.

I then eventually kept in touch with him throughout the years, went to restaurants to grab a bite, a Raptors game, etc.

Now, when I was texting my co-founder, he mentioned something about a "Butterfly Effect," and it was not until today on March 21st that made me think more deeply about this.

If I had not met my co-founder, I would not be working with him today, and if I did not provide him advice for his job search, he would not have eventually received an opportunity to work as a Researcher at one of the best veterinary schools in the world.

There are so many examples in history where if one person did not meet the other, or if one event did not exist, what would have happened later?

The Butterfly Effect is evident and truly I believe that every step that one takes in this life can cause seismic shifts to your own life, directly or indirectly.

Every decision you make, whether foolish or wise, can change the trajectory of your life.

Sometimes I always tinker on the idea of indeterminism, but I still believe that this life is too "fine-tuned" or deterministic/pre-destined.

Yet, do we really have freedom?

I started to detract myself from habits I have formed throughout the years, but I still feel like I am locked.

Perhaps, this idea of being locked is a safety mechanism, that will keep you safe from what will happen if you delve deeper.

Who knows, honestly.

What I do know is that my co-founder has reached his goal he had since 2022 and I am now working on an emerging startup with someone who is a close friend of mine.

Build what people want AND build with people that make you happy.
